Travelling, Friends and more Travelling!

The past few weeks I have really been focusing on making great friendships with my peers and meeting heaps of new people. After a crazy week with Kate it was nice just to go back to school and back to “normal”. Everyday spending time at school, getting to know my classmates more and doing the work that I can do.

Tuesday afternoon my friend Camilla came over, and together we cooked food for 100 people, because on Thursday night my host mum and a few others were making dinner for the church service in the town. It was a really nice night and I enjoyed having a fun, easy night.

The rest of the week flew by, and before I knew it, it was Friday and I was leaving for the train to go to Lalandia for the weekend. The Rotarians had planned a 'get2gether' for all the exchange students in Denmark, newbies and oldies. There were about 200 of us altogether and got to spend the weekend at a water theme park/activity place. It is not like any of the parks in Australia so it is hard to explain, but it was alot of fun and I loved meeting all the oldies and hearing all their "wisdom" and stories!

After a full-on weekend of not sleeping much, getting blisters on my feet from ice skating so much, dropping a bowling ball on my foot and laughing so much my stomach hurt, it was time for everyone to say goodbye and go home. But not for me. After the get2gether my friend generously let me stay at her house in Copenhagen (tak sarah) until it was time to meet my class at the Copenhagen Airport, to fly to England!

Last week I spent the whole week in Manchester, England with my class from school for study trip. Throughout the week we went to many different museums, visited a High School, Old Trafford and shopping. Two girls had there birthday in England and it was great to celebrate that with them and see what they do for a birthday. During the week, I made it my own personal goal to talk to everyone in the class and find out something about them. I found that after I asked them about them, they thought I was interested in the Danish ways, and they were easier to talk to and more open which was nice.

Once I got back from England on Friday the 8th March, everything went back to it’s normal, busy self. Now I have the major assignment I have to do as well as do some presentations in other English classes about Australia. I have already done one yesterday, and I think it went really well, as afterwards they seemed interested and asked many questions.

Every week someone new from my Rotary club invites me to spend time with them and usually to meet their family and last night I got invited to a gentleman named Jørn’s house for dinner and then I went with his son who is 15 years old to his Scouts meeting. I had never been to a Scouts meeting before this and I did not know what to expect, but it was great. They were studying all about being healthy and one of the topics was about your muscles and so we went as a group to this old ladies house, who specializes in therapy massages. We got shown how to massage properly and then all received a massage, which was well needed! It was lovely to meet his family and I cannot wait to meet more people and see how they live.

A Week With My Sister 20th - 24th February

Hey guys! Hey
Sorry I haven't written in about a month, it has been amazing and hectic here! I am going to try and sum it all up because so much has happened!

On the 20th of February my sister, Kate, came to visit me here in the wonderful, cold land of Denmark. She is currently studying at Norwich University in England so she only had to travel about 3 hours, which is awesome. She arrived Wednesday afternoon, so i met her in the city after school and showed her around the town a little bit, but we were both tired so we decided to go home so Kate could meet the family.

On Thursday 21st Feb : Kate and I woke up very early and she came to school with me :) I loved my new friends meeting my big sister because she is such an important part of my life, and for her to see and understand exactly what happens most days. After the first two classes my counsellor picked us both up and we went to a Rotary meeting, where Kate met more Danes! After that Inge picked us up and we drove out to Jelling where we saw a famous and old boulder and two hills where in one of them the first King of Denmark is buried and in the second is his wife.

Friday 22nd Feb: Kate and I took the day off and took a train 30mins north to a city called Århus where we spent the day. As soon as we got there we went straight to the ARoS Museum. We only spent 1 and half hour there, but we could have easily spent longer because there are so many different exhibitions and interesting art works to look at. Some of the most well known artworks in the museum is ‘Boy’ which is a 5 meters tall sculpture. Another famous part of the museum is the Rainbow panorama, which shows a beautiful view of Århus through different coloured windows.

Then we went to The Old Town which is a town with all old buildings put together and it looks like an actual old 1800’s town. After walking around there for a bit we went shopping together which was really fun J Once we got home we were so tired we rested for a bit, then Inge comes in and tells us that the next day we are going to Copenhagen!!

Saturday 23rd Feb: Inge, Arild, Kate and I went to Copenhagen for the day! We went on a VIP tour inside the Parliament House – more like a castle – and had tea in the private office with one of the Parliament members. We also say the changing of the guards at the Queens Palace, took a photo with the Little Mermaid statue which is a popular attraction in Copenhagen and saw many churches, museums and old buildings. Overall it was a lovely day.

On Sunday it was time to say goodbye to Kate and send her back to England. I was not as sad as I thought I would be when I was saying goodbye because it happened pretty fast, but I did feel her presence missing when I went home. It was so good to see you Kate, and I hope you are having an amazing time in England and making your own great memories <3
